Who should use it: People with GeoPort Telecom Adapter and Power Macintosh computers. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Note: If you have a 660AV or 840AV Macintosh and a GeoPort Telecom Adapter, you should download Geoport for 660AV/840AV (1.2.2) for System 7.5 compatibility. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- From the Read Me file: Using the GeoPort Telecom Adapter for Power Macintosh This GeoPort software, version 1.0.2, is especially designed for Power Macintosh computers. If you have the GeoPort Telecom Adapter for the Power Macintosh, you can install and use the GeoPort software. Compatibility with QuickDraw GX QuickDraw GX is not compatible with this version of GeoPort software. If you install QuickDraw GX, you wonÕt be able to send faxes until a new version of GeoPort software (2.0 or later) is available later this year. If you have installed QuickDraw GX, you can temporarily turn off QuickDraw GX and use your GeoPort Telecom Adapter. To turn off QuickDraw GX: 1. Hold down the space bar while you choose Restart from the Special menu. Continue to hold down the space bar until the Extensions Manager appears on your desktop. The Extensions Manager dialog box appears on the screen. 2. Click the box next to QuickDraw GX extension to remove the check. This prevents the QuickDraw GX software from loading. 3. Click the close box in the Extensions Manager dialog box to resume startup. Your GeoPort Telecom Adapter should work normally. You wonÕt be able to use any QuickDraw GX features until you turn the extension back on again. Installing the GeoPort Software on your Power Macintosh To install the GeoPort software on your computer, follow these steps: If you are installing from a CD or hard drive: 1. Open the folder named GeoPortª (located in the GeoPort for Power Macintosh folder) and proceed with step 2. If you are installing from a floppy disk. 1. Insert the GeoPortª disk and proceed with step 2. 2. Double-click the Installer icon. 3. The Installer displays a Welcome screen. Click OK. 4. In the Easy Install dialog box, click Install. 5. When you see a message that installation is finished, restart your computer. Users of Virtual Memory GeoPort will turn virtual memory off when it is installed. You will need to re-enable virtual memory in the Memory control panel in order to resume its use. Reinstalling System Software If you ever reinstall the system software on your computerÕs hard disk, be sure to reinstall the GeoPort software, following the instructions above. Networking Software Versions Required for Power Macintosh Please use these versions of networking software with your Power Macintosh computer: ¥ AppleShare Server version 4.0.2 ¥ AppleTalk Internet Router version 3.0.1 ¥ Inter¥Poll version 1.0.1 ¥ MacTerminal version 3.0 ¥ Apple Remote Access version 2.0 (Client; Personal Server); version 2.0.1 (Multiport Server) Users of Apple Remote Access Version 2.0 Appendix C of the Express Fax/Modem User's Guide incorrectly states that users of the GeoPort Telecom Adapter should select the GeoPort Telecom CCL in the Remote Access Setup control panel. If you are using Apple Remote Access 2.0 you should select the Express Modem ARA 2.0 CCL instead. V.17 Not Supported The Express Fax/Modem User's Guide indicates that your modem supports V.17 (14400 bps.).
