About Firmware Update Utilities

This document provides important information about Firmware
Update Utilities.

Firmware Utilities download software that updates the
firmware on the hard drive. Firmware is software that
controls the drive. This software is stored by the
electronics controller on the hard drive.

Apple hard drive firmware can only be updated by using a
firmware utility which has been developed by Apple Computer.

In order to update the firmware on a hard drive,  you must
boot the computer from the appropriate Update Utility
diskette. All of the disk images posted here are bootable.

Important Note: You can not update the firmware if you are
booted from the hard drive. You must make a floppy disk from
the disk image and boot from the disk. You can not mount the
disk image and run the Utility from the image.
