This software consists of a Disk Copy NDIF (New Disk Image Format) compressed image, which requires Disk Copy 6.1 or later to use. Download this software to your hard drive and then double-click it to use it. Disk Copy is available in the Utilities folder. Disk Copy 6.1 (or later) or Disk Image Mounter 2.1 (or later) from Apple are the recommended applications to access all disk images released by Apple and are the only supported applications to access NDIF disk images. Important information not included with this software: Apple discontinued PostScript Fax development: we do not plan to incorporate Fax capabilities in current or future versions of Macintosh or PC LaserWriter drivers. LaserWriter 8.4.3 that ships with Mac OS 8 does not support faxing documents via a PostScript Fax equipped printers that includes the LaserWriter 16/600 PS Fax, the LaserWriter Select 360f, and the LaserWriter Pro 810f. Customers who wish to fax via these PostScript Fax capable LaserWriters with Mac OS 8 may wish to use LaserWriter 8.2.3f. LaserWriter 8.2.3f, the most recent full-featured PostScript Fax LaserWriter driver, has not been revised in several years. Although this driver has not been tested with Mac OS 8, if properly installed and configured as described below, it may function correctly. However, we recommend you use the latest versions of LaserWriter software available, presently LaserWriter 8.4.3, for standard printing. The latest version contains all of the latest bug fixes, was thoroughly tested with the current Mac OS, as well as many popular, frequently-used applications. However, when you wish to transmit the occasional fax, then you may try using LaserWriter 8.2.3f. Installing and Using LaserWriter 8.2.3f under Mac OS 8 ------------------------------------------------------ LaserWriter 8.2.3f was only superficially tested with Mac OS 8 so proceed at your own risk. 1. Do not use the LaserWriter 8.2.3f Installer with Mac OS 8. Instead, copy the LaserWriter 8.2.3f driver to the Mac OS 8 System Folder icon (it should be placed in the Extensions folder). Note that the PPD files included with currently shipping printers may be used with these old drivers. 2. In the Chooser, select LaserWriter 8.2.3f, and set Background Printing to off. Select Setup (also in the Chooser). Close the Chooser. Note that a Desktop Printer icon will not appear on your desktop; nevertheless, print jobs will be processed by the LaserWriter driver selected via the Chooser. When you have completed sending a fax with LW 8.2.3f, select the current LaserWriter driver. Either select it then your printer via the Chooser, or highlight the Desktop Printer icon and then select "Set default printer." from the Printing menu. To send a fax again, select LaserWriter 8.2.3f in the Chooser. One might be able to use LaserWriter 8.3.4 (also not tested with Mac OS 8) installed and configured as described above for LW 8.2.3f. LaserWriter 8.3.4 requires you to enter your fax destination. LaserWriter 8.3.4 will remember the last phone number you send a fax, but if you wish to send a fax to a different destination, you'll need to enter the new number. LaserWriter 8.2.3f provides access to the Fax Phone Book to store your fax destination phone numbers, but LaserWriter 8.3.4 does not.
