The update addresses an issue which can affect some users of the Global Village 2.5.2P software on the Macintosh Performa 580, 630, 640, 5200, and 6100 series computers.

If you have one of these computers, and are experiencing the trouble which the GlobalFax 2.5.2P Update addresses, when the Global Village Registration software launches on system startup, you may see the following message:
 
"Can't find or can't access a modem to use for registration. Make sure you
have Global Village software installed correctly, reboot your computer, and
try again. If you want to use a specific modem for registration, select it
from Chooser."
 
If you then attempt to reset the modem in the TelePort control panel, you will see another alert message:
 
"The current port is busy and cannot be opened. Quit any open communication application, or turn off AppleTalk in the Chooser (if the modem is connected to the Printer port), and then reopen the TelePort control panel.
 
This issue only pertains to Global Village 2.5.2P software.
 
If you are experiencing the symptoms described above, then you should download
and use the update.
 
To verify which version of the Global Village software you have, simply open
your System Folder, and then open your Extensions folder.  Click on the GlobalFax icon once, then select Get Info from your File menu.  The Version: field will list the version number of the software.
 
The Updater application will update a copy of version 2.5.2P of the Global Village Toolbox extension to version 2.5.2P1.  This Updater application automatically checks for the proper software, so it will not affect any version of the software that doesn't need the update.

You should keep this update application. If you ever re-install your GlobalFax 2.5.2P software from your CD, you will need to run this application again.

To perform this update, double-click the Performa GlobalFax 2.5.2 Update icon.  After the update has completed, restart your Macintosh computer.
