This software consists of a self-extracting archive. To use, download, double-click the downloaded file (this decompresses it). From the Read Me included with this software: Mercury Gateway to AT&T Mail Version 1.0C Important Information This READ ME file contains installation instructions and additional information that is not in the user's guide. You must install the software to obtain the user's guide. Installation To install the software: If you have a previous version of the gateway installed, you must remove it. To remove it, open your Key Chain (choose "Key Chain" from the "Mail and Catalogs" submenu in the Apple menu), select the gateway, and click the remove button. 1. If the Installer disk is not in the disk drive, insert it. If you are installing from a folder, locate the installer. 2. Double-click the Installer icon. 3. When the installer appears, follow the instructions. Next, read the Overview section in the included user's guide. The user's guide is in the AT&T Mail Gateway Info folder on your hard disk. After you have read the Overview, read from the section entitled "Adding the Gateway Key to your PowerTalk Key Chain." Important Instructions if you are updating from 1.0B The gateway has been renamed from EasyLink to AT&T Mail. This has side effects with PowerTalk if you've ever had the older version installed. You must manually remove the gateway from the system and update your address cards. Future updates will not have this problem as long as the name of the gateway remains AT&T Mail. Step 1: If you have the Mercury Gateway to EasyLink installed, do the following: Remove the gateway from the keychain, drag the gateway extension and folder from the system extensions folder into the trash. Drag your PowerTalk Setup Preferences file from the system preferences folder to the trash (sorry). Restart the computer. Install this version. The address icons created with the older version will not work with the newer version. You will have to create new ones and remove the old ones from your Personal Catalog and anywhere else you may have saved them. The EasyLink recipients in any saved messages as well as those in your mailbox will be displayed but will no longer work. Important: If you don't have AT&T Mail service and would like to obtain service, call us. In addition to helping you obtain service, we will give you an unlock code that will remove a limit on this trial version of the gateway. If you are an existing AT&T Mail customer, you will have a limited number of sessions with this trial version. After the trial period ends, you must contact us for an unlock code. There will be no charge. We Want Your Feedback! If you have any problems with the software, or you have comments or suggestions for future versions, please let us know. Just type your message in SimpleText, AppleMail, or your favorite word processor, then drag the document's icon onto the "Mercury Support" icon in the "AT&T Mail Gateway Info" folder. The card contains our mail address: !Mercury3. Get On Our E-Mailing List To receive updates and new information, send us a message with the subject "subscribe". To send the message, open AppleMail (choose "AppleMail" from the "Mail and Catalogs" submenu in the Apple menu) and type "subscribe" as the subject. Drag the provided "Mercury Support" icon (in the AT&T Mail Gateway Info folder) into the recipient field of the mailer. Under the mail menu select send. Known Problems and Limitations ¥ If you are sending multiple messages, while the gateway is connected to the service and sending several messages, only the message that is currently being sent is listed as "sending". The other messages are listed as "waiting", which is normal for PowerTalk. ¥ All outbound attachments are MacBinary-encoded when sending, and thus may not be readable by non-Macintosh systems. Inbound attachments can be received from most any source. ¥ There may be a seven-second delay after the carrier is lost. This delay is normal for the Apple Modem Tool. ¥ Messages which include only one resolved AT&T Mail recipient as a CC or BCC may arrive as a 'TO'. ¥ If the Gateway stops working or you have trouble unlocking your keychain, try dragging the PowerTalk Setup Preferences file (in the System:Preferences folder) to the trash and restart. You will have to set up PowerTalk again if you do this, but this procedure, if necessary, will cure many problems. Changes From Version 1.0B ¥ "EasyLink Gateway" name has been changed to "AT&T Mail Gateway". ¥ Recipient lists are now stored more efficiently so that large recipient lists can be used. Approximately 2000 total recipients (all inbound, all outbound) can be contained in the default Gateway memory allocation (500K). ¥ If the serial port is busy, the Gateway will camp-on the serial port, and attempt to establish a connection the next time it is available. The keychain setup progress indication shows this state. ¥ The Gateway now works with the Apple Modem Tool 1.5.5. ¥ Changing "I'm at" while the template is active no longer corrupts the settings. ¥ The Gateway no longer crashes when the "I'm at" location changes. ¥ Outgoing addresses now have the original recipient name included as well as the eMail address. ¥ Previous problems with system shutdown being ignored are now fixed. The Gateway will exit when informed of a system shutdown. If the Gateway has a session active, that session will finish before the Gateway exits. ¥ Short text enclosures were corrupted under some circumstances or would cause error #64 or system crash. This problem has been fixed. Mercury Software, Inc. 3761 Venture Drive, Suite 170 Duluth, Georgia 30136 (770) 476-2566 AT&T Mail: !Mercury3 http://www.mercurysw.com
